Hospitals or Healthcare facilities that provide services to individuals with neurologic disorders and for neurosurgery may have discovered that their departments are not coordinated or working as efficiently as possible to deliver comprehensive neuoroscience patient services, especially neuroscience nursing care.  An opportunity to work with a consultant with Ms. Barker's background and experience could be an important step in evaluating how to optimize and streamline patient care for a Neuroscience Center of Excellence An important goal for a hospital’s neuroscience nursing staff is to plan and organize a program for their nurses to become certified in neuroscience nursing (CNRN).

A coordinated approach that includes hospital administrators, neurologists, neurosurgeons and related medical specialists, e.g. rehabilitation physicians and nursing leaders is a major step to establish a Neuroscience Center of Excellence. A commitment to the highest standards of care for patients with neurological disorders, undergoing neurosurgery or diagnosed with acute or chronic pain requires a dedicated team to offer the community they serve the highest quality of patient care. A highly qualified and competent nursing staff is the backbone of patient management and a critical element for success.

Following an initial meeting with hospital leaders, a report is prepared by Ms. Barker with recommendations to achieve the hospital’s goals. Follow-up is based on the final plan with a scheduled timetable for implementation. A significant component of the plan may be educational classes and steps, for example, for the neuroscience nurses to take the CNRN examination and become certified in neuroscience nursing.
